A contract, invoice or transfer confirmation can help explain a claim, but does not replace a judgment. If the debtor has moved abroad, start by gathering evidence and assessing possible routes.

Organise the evidence

Keep the contract, order, evidence of completed work, payment messages and transfer confirmations. Prepare a chronology of the agreement, performance, payment deadline, demands and partial payments. Separate the principal from interest and costs whose entitlement needs assessment.

Check the appropriate court and deadlines

The answer depends on the parties, contract type, agreements about courts and applicable law, and other circumstances. Do not assume that a current Polish address determines jurisdiction. Do not apply a Polish limitation period to every contract made in the UK.

Consider voluntary payment

Before incurring further costs, assess prospects for contact, settlement and instalments. The wording of a payment demand and the effect of an agreement must fit the case. Do not publish the debtor’s details or treat an unpaid debt as automatic evidence of fraud.

An initial assessment should identify the documents needed, potentially relevant deadlines and who can handle the matter in the appropriate jurisdiction. Choose action after that assessment.
